Volcán Laguna Mariñaqui is a minor volcanic center about 45 km S of Copahué and 40 km ENE of Tolguaca volcanoes. It consists of two eroded open craters, 2 km apart along a NE-trending fault, that produced andesitic pyroclastic material and lava flows with columnar jointing; González-Ferrán (1995) identified them as Holocene. The nearby Cerro Chapulul cinder cone, on a plateau ranging from 2,000-2,300 m elevation, was also considered Holocene by Moreno (1985, pers. comm.). However, the entire area was mapped by Stern (1989) as Pleistocene
