A broad, low-angle shield volcano located about 16 km south of the capital city of Tegucigalpa, Cerro de Hule is the second most prominent Quaternary volcano of the central Honduran plateau. Cerro de Hule was constructed at the intersection of two fracture systems and fed basaltic lava flows in all directions. The longest lava flow traveled 10 km to the NE and is now traversed over much of its length by the Carretera del Sur highway.
