Telapón is a large Pleistocene stratovolcano north of Iztaccíhuatal. It lies along a N-S-trending volcanic chain extending from Popocatépetl volcano that is perpendicular to the trend of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt. A dacitic lava flow at the summit was K-Ar dated at about 274,000 years (Cadoux, 2007 pers. comm.).
