Las Cumbres volcanic complex is a Quaternary center ~15 km NNE of Pico de Orizaba The ~3.5 km summit caldera is narrowly breached on the E, and is largely filled by a dacitic lava dome (Cerro Gordo or El Cumbre Grande). Eruptive activity at the main complex ceased during the late Pleistocene. Rhyolitic and obsidian domes to the N and SW, sometimes associated with this complex, are listed as subfeatures of the Serdán-Oriental Volcanic Field in this catalog.
