Volcanic rocks from the Tuzo Wilson Knolls were most likely erupted since a drop in the sedimentation rate following sea level rise at end of the last glaciation. They are considered to be the current location of a hotspot that formed the Kodiak-Bowie seamount chain (Chase, 1977). A Potassium-Argon date of 55,000 +/- 55,000 years before present was obtained by Cousens et al. (1985).
