The small San Carlos volcanic field covers about 50 km2 with basaltic cinder cone and lava flow remnants. The field, active from possibly 4.2 to 1.0 million years ago, is located within the San Carlos Apache Indian reservation (Lynch, in Wood and Kienle 1990).
