The Potrillo volcanic field, in southern New Mexico along the western margin of the Rio Grande Rift, contains more than 150 cinder cones and five maars. Features include Kilbourne Hole, a small shield volcano, and Potrillo maar, which straddles the US-Mexico border. The field was active from 2.65 to 0.8 million years ago (Hoffer, in Wood and Kienle 1990).
