Pelican Butte, one of the largest volcanoes between Crater Lake and Mount Shasta, is a late Pleistocene andesitic shield volcano. Located slightly east of the Cascade Range crest, Pelican Butte is cut by a broad cirque on the NE side and is probably no younger than about 60,000 years before present (Smith, in Wood and Kienle 1990).
