The Boring Lava volcanic field, underlying part of the city of Portland, Oregon, and neighboring areas to the east and across the Columbia River in Washington, was active from the Pliocene until about the mid-Pleistocene. The field consists of at least 32 to perhaps 50 small basaltic shield volcanoes and cinder cones, with a large concentration of vents located NW of the town of Boring, Oregon. Larch Mountain shield volcano near the eastern end of the volcanic field is the highest summit. These volcanoes lie about 100 km W of the main Cascade Range volcanoes.
