St. George Island is comprised of Tertiary to late-Pleistocene cones and lava flows (Lee-Wong, in Wood and Kienle 1990). An eruption was reported NE of the island in 1815, but "in spite of these assertations any present volcanic activity must be regarded as doubtful" (Barth 1956).
