The submarine Volsmar volcanic field lies near the southern end of the Vanuatu (or New Hebrides) Volcanic Arc, ~150 km SSE of Aneityum Island and about 60 km SSE of the Gemini-Oscostar cones. Bathymetric mapping has identified a large stratovolcano at the N end named Mariposa, and a slightly smaller volcano, Abeja, about 5 km SW; additional small cones extend 10-12 km further S.
