Features in the Emperor Range on NW Bougainville Island about 10 km N and NNW of Balbi volcano have been described as an andesitic volcano and a related 6 x 9 km caldera named Tore. This location may be the source of two Pleistocene ignimbrites that form a broad fan that extends the coastline to the west. The S and SW sides of the supposed caldera rim are covered by lava flows that extend up to 14 km from a large lava cone. The summit consists of an erosional pyramidal peak and a forested satellitic ash cone 3 km to the NW. Blake and Miezitis (1967) noted that freshly preserved features of the post-caldera ash cone and lava cone indicate a Recent age. These features as described are not apparent in satellite imagery (2022) of the area.
