The Tanga Island Group of Malendok, Lif and Tefa are the visible summit of a mostly submerged volcanic edifice. In the center of the caldera, the small islands of Bitlik and Bitbok mark remnants of early Pleistocene post-caldera lava domes, the volcano's latest activity.
