The heavily eroded Mount Hagen massif is comprised of three coalescing stratovolcanoes with NW-facing escarpments that may resulted from slope failure (Johnson, 1987). Mackenzie and Johnson (1984) obtained Potassium-Argon dates of 420,000 and 220,000 years ago.
