Rodriguez Island lies along the Rodriguez Fracture Zone about 650 km east of Mauritius Island. The 6.5 x 18 km island consists of a basaltic shield volcano of probably Plio-Pleistocene age. K-Ar ages of 1.54 and 1.32 million years were obtained from lava flows (Upton et al., 1967).
