The Pliocene-to-Pleistocene Moheli Island, also known as Mwali, was constructed by eruptions along a NW-SE rift zone. A renewal of activity during the late Pleistocene produced lava flows and cinder cones (Strong, 1972; Krafft, 1983). Ages reported by Rusquet et al. (2024) were in the 1.04-1.27 Ma range.
