The submarine Jumelles Ridge and Mwezi province are lineaments of monogenic seamounts and domes approximately 60 km NE of Mayotte in the Comoros Islands. Rusquet at al. (2024) concluded that the Jumelles and Mwezi features represent a continuous zone of volcanic seamounts aligned along a N130-N135°E trend, with intermittent mafic activity from before 1.4 Ma until about 0.2 Ma. They also noted decreasing ages from the Jumelles ridges to Mwezi, less-evolved compositions of Mwezi magmas, decreasing height of edifices from the SE to the NW, and a change from polygenic to monogenic features, all suggesting that the Mwezi field is a propagation of the Jumelles volcano-tectonic structures toward the NW.
