Sahand volcano (Kuh-e-Sahand) is located in NW Iran, about 60 km E of Lake Urmia and 40 km SSE of the city of Tabriz. Numerous lava domes are present on the lower flanks. Pleistocene Potassium-Argon dates from 1.2-0.8 million years ago have been obtained (Innocenti et al., 1982), though Karakhanian et al. (2002) stated that eruptions continued into the Holocene. In their review of research on Sahand, Ghalamghash et al. (2019) concluded that the most recent activity was less than 173 ka, but not Holocene.
