Himmat el-Jazira, a 400 km2 area with lava flows and minor pyroclastic flows, was identified by Lease and Abdel-Rahman (2008) as part of the Plio-Quaternary Euphrates Volcanic Field. They also included Ein Abou-Jema (~30 km2 of mafic–ultramafic lava flows) as part of this volcanic system. This location was included in IAVCEI (1973) as a group of seven volcanoes last active in the middle to late Pleistocene.
