Kaukab is a basaltic cone about 1 km in diameter with a large breached and eroded crater; additional smaller cones are located 2 km N and 500 m S. It was described as Holocene by Malki (in IAVCEI, 1973), but very little work has been done in this area, and no definitive age has been determined. Lease and Abdel-Rahman (2008) include this as part of the Plio-Quaternary Euphrates Volcanic Field, noting that "piles of lava flows at the Kaukab locality are about 10 m thick at the centre, diminishing to 3 m in thickness at the edge of the plateau."
