The Dilo-Dukana Volcanic Field in northern Kenya about 150 km E of Lake Turkana extends NE across the border into southern Ethiopia and covers about 1,000 km2. Franceschini et al. (2020) provides an excellent review of this field, from which most of this summary is taken. Using satellite images they recognized 52 volcanic vents (mainly cinder cones), with 26 still well-preserved (mainly maars and some cones). The most prominent feature in the southern part of the field is the 1.8-km-wide Gof Dukana maar. Both cones and maars are often found in clusters or alignments, suggesting several fissures; the largest flows covered almost 17 km2. Age dates (40Ar/39Ar) of four samples analyzed by Corti et al. (2019) ranged between 0.3 and 0.13 Ma.
